What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that gently straightens your teeth using a series of clear, custom-fitted, medical-grade plastic aligners. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign is designed to fit seamlessly into your lifestyle, transforming your smile without anybody knowing!

With Invisalign, our Ascot dentists and West End dentists will carefully plan the gradual, precise movement of your teeth into their final, desired position using advanced 3D imaging of your teeth. Each aligner in your treatment plan is worn for 1 to 2 weeks, and results are often achieved in 12 to 18 months. Since the aligners are removable, you can continue to eat and clean your teeth as normal during treatment, making it more hygienic than traditional braces.

Why straighten my teeth?

Having crowded or crooked teeth is incredibly common, often caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. For many people, it is part of their unique character and personal identity - and that is perfectly fine.

We believe that choosing to straighten your teeth is not just an aesthetic decision, it is also an investment in your long-term health.

Straighter teeth are much easier to keep clean than crooked teeth, because there are no ‘hidden’ spots that you are unable to reach with your toothbrush or floss. With orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign, you reduce the risk of long-term tooth decay and gum disease.

Crooked teeth often result in malocclusion or a ‘bad bite’, where your upper and lower teeth do not align when you close your mouth. Aligning your teeth ensures that the force of your bite is distributed evenly, and helps protect your teeth from premature wear and tear, while avoiding chronic jaw pain and migraines.

And of course, the confidence boost and mental wellbeing from being able to smile freely cannot be understated. Our smiles are the most universal form of communication, and many of our Brisbane patients find that straightening their teeth helps them navigate life with greater social ease.

How does Invisalign work?

All orthodontic treatments, including Invisalign, rely on your body’s natural bone remodelling process.

Our teeth are attached to the jawbone by the periodontal ligament. When sustained pressure is applied to a tooth, movement in the ligament triggers the bone surrounding the tooth to break down and rebuild. With time, this bone remodelling process allows teeth to move within the jawbone.

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, medical-grade plastic aligners to apply the forces required to straighten your teeth, bit by bit.

With Invisalign, we can provide a predictable, comfortable, and discreet path to the smile you have always wanted.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

Our cosmetic dentists use 3D scans of your teeth to precisely plan the movement of each tooth upfront, allowing you to visualise your projected results even before treatment starts.

With Invisalign, you will receive a series of aligner trays that are numbered in the order they are to be worn, as per your treatment plan.

Each Invisalign aligner applies targeted pressure to specific teeth over a 1 to 2 week period via small attachments (temporarily) bonded to the surface of your teeth. As you switch to each successive aligner, your teeth will gradually shift into their new positions.

What to expect during treatment

Invisalign trays should be worn 20 to 22 hours each day for optimal progression through your treatment plan. The aligners can be removed at any time, so you can continue to enjoy your favourite foods and maintain your regular brushing and flossing routine.

For most patients, Invisalign treatment takes 12 to 18 months. During this period, our Brisbane cosmetic dentists will schedule regular check-ups with you to ensure everything is progressing as planned.
