You should immediately contact your dentist for an emergency appointment. Getting to a dentist within 30 minutes can make the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

The tooth must only be handled by the crown, not the root. Handling of the tooth root can damage cells necessary for bone re-attachment. Gently place the tooth in a solution of saline or in milk. If saline or milk is not readily available, very quickly rinse the tooth in water to remove dirt and place the tooth in your mouth between the cheek and the gum to keep it moist, and see your dentist as soon as possible. Do not overly rinse the tooth in water. Do not scrub the tooth.

If you are unable to see your dentist immediately (within the hour), quickly rinse the tooth in saline or milk, and being careful not to touch the root, insert the tooth back into the tooth socket (ensuring the tooth is in the correct orientation) and see your dentist as soon as you can.
